SuperPhone: A Text Message Marketing Success Story
As fans of Ryan Leslie's work, we were all excited to be able to contribute to SuperPhone's mission to empower their users to leverage text message marketing as a means to reach and engage with a larger audience. Ryan's mission to empower indecent artist, musicians, business, and creators at scale required our team to deeply understand their target customers and their underserved needs.
Understanding the problem
Business Goals
The SuperPhone team needed a content management system (CMS) that was both adaptable and well-organized, allowing their marketing team to create and distribute content regularly. They also had to abandon their previous development platform, WordPress, due to numerous security breaches. Maintaining high security and sustainability were essential components of the migration process. Empowering their team made the most sense so that they can be self sufficient.
Business challenge
Given the size of their marketing team, hiring a whole department was not feasible. That's why they turned to the Zabal team, who could provide the necessary strategy, design, Webflow development, QA, and technical SEO support. Working with an agency like Zabal enabled them to move forward rapidly without the burden of recruiting, hiring, and managing new team members. We were able to start working on the project immediately.
Asking the right questions
Research goals
How might we identify user needs and preferences, understand the competitive landscape, and determine the most effective ways to incorporate automation while maintaining a personalized user experience.
Automation
Relationship automation is challenging because it must feel authentic and organic. Setting triggers to feel human streamlines this process.
Notification
External triggers can be beneficial in getting users back on the platform. Making the primary features accessible is key.
Outreach
Making sure that the right messages are going out to the correct audience is the way to generate more leads and potential customers.
Measurable
You can't improve what you do not measure. Being able to attribute sales to a messaging campaign proved the value of text automation tools.

Defining a visual direction
Aside from colors and font styles, the SuperPhone team did not have a well-established brand guideline. We partnered closely with their lead designer to ensure that visual elements were cohesive across all digital and print media.

Evolving the brand through motion
After discussing the visual direction for the new website, we recognized the potential to enhance the brand's storytelling beyond just using relevant content. We concluded that incorporating motion design with Lottie animations would help communicate the value of the SuperPhone product more effectively.
Specifically, adding motion to features such as message automation, analytics, filtering, and voice capabilities would be valuable in demonstrating how they work.
